Business Issue

An international bank was re-organising its global IT provision based on an outsourced/off-shored model.  As part of the model, value-adding and innovative business IT executive leadership would remain within the bank.  The new IT management team was made up of a number of global and regional roles covering the bank’s business activities in Europe, North and South America and Asia.  We were asked to help with developing the new executive management team and specifically its common purpose.

How We Helped

Initially we conducted a diagnosis of the executive teams’ views of current reality in relation to their views of the desired position using our Top Team Effectiveness Questionnaire (TTEQ).  This addresses business purpose and direction, roles and organisation, operating processes, team relationships and organisational relationships and working climate and so delivers a gap analysis.

Following an analysis of the questionnaires, all the executive team members were interviewed about the key issues they identified.  Using the output of the diagnosis of team effectiveness, we designed an executive workshop to be run as a one and a half day segment of a quarterly executive meeting in Brazil for the global team to consider the findings.

Outcomes and Results Achieved

The gap analysis between the global team’s views of current reality and the desired position were considered and discussed during the workshop along with the key issues identified by the team members.  By the end of the workshop the team had agreed a new vision and common agenda and had considered team effectiveness and agreed actions for team development along with the leadership priorities for engaging the next levels.  Finally, immediate actions were identified to commence implementation.
