Business Issue

This international automotive distribution business had recently de-merged from a larger trading multinational.  As the largest business entity, the new company wanted to develop its HR function to move beyond HR administration and contribute to business effectiveness and performance.  There was an expectation that HR should exert greater influence to improve management practice and performance outcomes.  To establish the new HR role, a conference was organised to include all HR professionals from around the world and our assistance was sought to design and lead a programme of development.

How We Helped  

To assist the development of a new proactive HR role, we designed the conference programme to develop HR consulting capabilities, including the consultant’s role, the main elements of the consulting process, the consultant/client relationship and to improve the impact of the HR professional’s relationship management and influencing skills.  The HR participants also considered developing their marketing and communication capabilities and approach to managing change.

Outcomes and Results Achieved 

A new HR role was agreed between the conference participants which reflected the aim of the company to have an HR function focused on performance improvement and organisational effectiveness.  Real company issues were identified for consultancy and changes in the HR/line manager relationship and participants practised influencing skills and giving and receiving feedback.  Finally, change strategies were developed by the various HR disciplines (e.g. Learning and Development, Reward Management) and personal development plans agreed.


IS Division of Multinational Car Distributor

To support the repositioning of the IS function in relation to the business.

Analysis of business strategy, development of measurement framework, Senior Management Workshop and Management Conference.

New purpose and role, performance measures and key performance indicators and competencies delivered.


International Automotive Consultancy

To determine the needs for development among the Directors with respect to coaching capabilities as a basis for improving the performance and developing the potential of professionals.

Conducted Executive meetings and Senior Management interviews and presented findings and recommendations to the Board. Developed aims and content of Directors coaching workshop, and led the delivery of a programme of workshops that provided for practice with real company cases.

Director’s coaching capabilities developed in managing and enabling high performance and the development of potential. Utilising a coaching framework and Coaching skills to improve the ongoing management of performance and the development of longer term potential.


International Automotive Distribution Company

To develop strategic conference programme for Senior International Executives from around the world.

Executive meetings to identify and shape development issues, design and development of programme sessions, facilitating conference proceedings and Executive Workshop.

Strategic opportunities reviewed, common purpose clarified, strategic goals identified, operating style and role of head office team reviewed as a basis for fostering teamworking and innovation.
